Environment, Science and Innovation – Cairns QLD As the PO4 Principal Conservation Officer, you will work within a diverse team of experienced professionals responsible for utilising robust science and knowledge, legislation, policy and stakeholder input to develop projects, processes, procedures and guidance material to implement threatened species conservation strategies and recovery actions.You will work with staff from across the unit as well as regularly engaging and building relationships with other departmental units, government agencies, research institutions, natural resource management groups, non-government organisations and species experts. A critical element of our program is working with our stakeholders and communicating our program priorities, so we are looking for someone who is engaging and adaptive in their communications and way of working.You will be required to draw on your scientific and ecological knowledge and conservation planning principles, and manage projects from planning through to delivery, so good time, budget and process and reporting skills are required. To be successful in this position you must have: Experience in project management related to ecological planning, conservation management, landscape scale science or threatened species management. The work we do is challenging and critical to the conservation of our threatened species. We are looking for someone that understands the principles of conservation planning and threatened species management to ensure our projects are appropriately designed, well managed and outcomes driven. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate project management skills, contract management, the ability to plan and deliver on outcomes, and contribute to program priorities. Ability to work as part of a diverse team, as well as work autonomously. We are looking for someone who is able to work across several teams and a variety of projects to gather the best available information, encourage discussion and contributions, and meet our program priorities. You will need to manage your priorities and your outputs, take responsibility for your work, meet deadlines and milestones, and inspire team members to deliver outcomes. An ability to build relationships, communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders, and negotiate project requirements. We are looking for someone with the confidence and skills to initiate constructive conversations, negotiate projects, contracts and funding, and to maintain relationships. You will have confidence in both your written and spoken communication skills, and an ability to articulate purpose, engage with a variety of audiences and demonstrated attention to accuracy of information.
