In this role you will:
* Provide authoritative legal advice (both written and oral), primarily in relation to employment law matters involving QCS staff and processes and in relation to emerging or current case law, legislative governance and risk mitigation and in relation to departmental activities and contentious issues.
* Prepare timely advice, reports, correspondence and briefing notes on legal issues to the Minister, Commissioner, Executive Team and other senior QCS officers.
* including statutory interpretation in relation to QCS activities and the law reform initiatives of external agencies.
* Liaise with Crown Law and other legal service providers to ensure a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to the provision of legal services involving QCS.
* Undertake legal research, analysis, review and evaluation to ensure QCS' activities, including its operations and procedures, satisfy public sector standards for accountability and effectiveness.
* Provide management support including directly supervising and mentoring other legal officers, managing the appropriate allocation of work to the team and monitoring timeframes in the delivery of legal services.
* Assist to market Legal Strategy and Services' capability and services and contribute to the strengthening of capabilities of QCS staff in legal issues. You may also be required to provide training to QCS staff in relation to the investigating and decision-making processes.
* Assist the Director to identify and make recommendations to the Executive Team and other senior management on trends, risks and future opportunities in contemporary and emerging legal issues affecting QCS.
