GHD has provided geotechnical services to our clients in Australia for over 65 years. Today, we draw on the power of more than 350 geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, pavement engineers, hydrogeologists, geophysicists and laboratory technicians.
With the extensive experience available within our Western Australian based team, the Group provides an extensive range of geotechnical investigation, design, consulting and construction support services. Depending on project requirements, these services may be integrated with other engineering and design teams provided by GHD and/or project partners or provided directly as specialist geotechnical services to our clients.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our established team of Geotechnical specialists in our Perth office. This role will provide a balance of technical work, project management, leadership and client-facing problem solving. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work across a broad portfolio of projects within a diverse and especially passionate national geotechnical team. You will deliver projects, as well as crafting and reviewing geotechnical work to provide our client's projects benefits for their communities.
Working with an energetic and successful team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in the following:
1. Working with a wide range of experienced geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, pavement engineers, geophysicists, hydrogeologists and geo-technicians at a national and international level.
2. Contributing to the delivery of projects, including identification and management of risks, and ensuring work outputs are of a high technical standard.
3. Undertaking geotechnical analyses in areas such as deep excavations, slope stability, foundations, retaining walls, pavement designs etc.
4. Undertaking interpretation and analysis of data to develop and implement practical and commercial solutions.
5. Interacting with client through pursuit, tendering and delivery phases of projects, along with opportunities to address business development tasks in our relationship-oriented business.
6. Providing technical mentoring for junior team members to build and develop their skills to ensure the continuing success of the team.
What you will bring to the team:
1. Degree level qualifications in the field of geotechnical / geological / civil engineering. Post graduate qualifications in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology will be beneficial.
2. A minimum of 8 years relevant engineering/industry experience in geotechnical consulting, including fieldwork data gathering and site investigation reporting.
3. An aim to provide strong technical leadership, mentoring and advice to others. The ability to prioritise, co-ordinate and lead teams carrying out both field investigation and analytical design work.
4. Ability to carry out geotechnical analysis of slopes, shallow foundations, piled foundations, deep excavations and retaining structures using industry standard software or methods (AS1726-2017) experience with, or willingness to learn numerical modelling software, particularly Plaxis (2D & 3D) and Abaqus.
5. Focus on client service, good people relationships and networking skills.
6. A strong personal dedication to Health and Safety in geotechnical projects and alignment to HSE procedures.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8. Project management skills appropriate for large or sophisticated projects, excellent judgement and decisiveness; with a bias for action.
9. Willingness to travel and work on remote sites, with a current manual WA driver’s license (or equivalent).
