The School of Engineering is one of the most research-intensive Schools within the University.
The School offers Engineering degree programs in Aerospace Systems, Chemical, Civil, Computer Systems, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Medical, and Renewable Energy as well as degree programs in Surveying and Geospatial Engineering.
The School is rated well above the sector average for quality of overall experience for undergraduate engineering students and for median salaries with more than 90% of our engineering undergraduates finding employment within 4 months of completing their studies.
This continuing position is full time and will be located at the Callaghan Campus (Awabakal land).
The Role
The Civil Engineering program provides students with critical technical skills in structural engineering, civil engineering materials, geomechanics, water engineering, transport engineering and engineering management.
The Surveying program provides students with critical surveying and engineering skills related to local land and mining surveying techniques, spatial data systems, satellite positioning geodesy and remote sensing.
The Environmental Engineering program provides students with critical technical skills in sustainability, water engineering, environmental process technologies underpinned by environmental sciences and engineering principles especially related to geotechnics and hydrogeology.
As a member of the discipline, the successful candidate will:
Provide outstanding leadership that fosters staff development and promotes cooperation between the university, government, national and international academia, and industry.
Provide sustained and significant research performance to attract undergraduate and postgraduate students to the discipline and mentor early career researchers.
Attract industry-based research support and competitive external grant funding at national and international level.
Enhance student learning and experience by providing exceptional leadership to staff in delivering a relevant curriculum using contemporary teaching pedagogies (e.g.
blended and active learning).
Provide leadership in the development and implementation of new programs.
Work cohesively within a team environment to strengthen current and future research priorities of the School.
Lead service activities within the School, College and University to maintain academic standards and administrative effectiveness.

How will you become part of our community?
The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor who is PhD qualified in Structural or Geospatial Engineering with a passion for teaching in areas covering:
structural design, analysis and modelling; sustainable engineering practice incorporating circular economy impacts and environmental legislation; managing project complexity; chaos and big data; the role of digital technologies and the internet of things on infrastructure, remote sensing, geospatial engineering, and resource management and development.
The successful applicant will also have a sustained recent record of strategic leadership in planning, developing and implementing high-quality, safe and inclusive learning environments and programs for students using adaptive and innovative teaching methods, such as online teaching and hands-on experiences.
In addition, you will have a demonstrated sustained ability to engage and network with external organisations, to secure major research funding and to assist industry in solving highly complex technical problems over sustained periods of time as well as a demonstrated sustained record of successful leadership of research including producing significant high-quality publications and outcomes in areas such as:
advanced structural analysis and design; sustainable and reliable development and rejuvenation of on-shore and off-shore infrastructure; remote sensing; geospatial engineering; adaptation and transformation of infrastructure, be it urban, coastal and rural resources including water, energy, critical minerals and food; defence will be favourably considered.
How will we support you?
The remuneration for this position ranges from $159,865 - $176,118 plus 17% superannuation.
