About the role
The Operational Support Division provides technical advice, training, and systems to support the operation of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and the eastern Australian interconnection.
The position will contribute strongly to the operation and development of systems and processes for the monitoring, investigation and reporting of outcomes in the NEM. Its key responsibility is to deliver insightful analysis on the energy markets which AEMO operates that identifies key emerging issues and trends, alongside their associated implications, to inform debate and drive market change.
What you will be doing
* Derive insights from market events, outcomes, and trends, and provide these in the form of reports and expert advice to internal and external stakeholders.
* Analyse and report on participant behaviour, market events, system issues and dispatch problems. Prepare reports for publication on market events and present at forums and meetings.
* Document results and draw key conclusions using clear and concise language that is understandable to a diverse audience.
* Develop data analytics and tools to support improvements to analyses performed by the Electricity Market Monitoring team.
* Analyse dispatch process outcomes for consistency with market offers and power system conditions at the time.
* Analyse market operations to determine and report on the impact on participants of normal operations, directions, scheduling errors, incorrect inputs, market events and market suspension.
* Participate in regular and ad-hoc reporting and presentations.
* Manage small projects and programs of work.
What you will bring to the role
* At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in energy operations and analysis of market information in the NEM.
* Experience and knowledge in the energy industry including AEMO’s wholesale and retail energy markets as well as related energy markets including ASX energy futures, green certificates, carbon, C&I prices etc preferred.
* Strong analytical, problem solving and data-handling skills: SQL, Python, R or other programming knowledge would be beneficial, with an ability to draw out conclusions from statistical modelling.
* Understanding and awareness of mathematical modelling and optimisation techniques, and their application to dispatch and pricing of spot markets.
