About the role Hanrob, a leading provider of premium pet care services, is seeking an experienced Dog Trainer to join our team in Heathcote in Sydney's South. In this full-time role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive dog training programs that cater to the unique needs of our clients and their canine companions. What you'll be doing • Designing and implementing tailored training plans to address behavioural issues and enhance obedience in dogs of all ages and breeds • Conducting one-on-one and group training sessions, using positive reinforcement techniques to build a strong foundation of trust and cooperation with the dogs • Providing expert guidance and support to pet owners, helping them to continue the training process at home and achieve long-term results • Maintaining accurate records and documentation of each dog's progress and milestones • Collaborating with the broader Hanrob team to ensure a consistent, high-quality experience for all clients and their pets • Working across Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday, as needed (38 hours per week) What we're looking for • Proven experience as a professional group/puppy class instructor/trainer (minimum 2-4 years) • Has completed/studying an accredited Dog Training or related Qualifications (e.g. Cert IV in Animal Behaviour & Training). • Responds well to demands on your time and work effectively without direct supervision. • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with both dogs and their owners • Thorough knowledge of canine behaviour, learning theory, and the latest positive reinforcement training techniques • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to tailor training approaches to individual needs • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for the well-being of animals • Has administration skills and experience to maintain training records. • Holds a current driver’s licence and your own car to get to/from work (Public Transport does not service our facility). • Has unrestricted work rights in Australia and be able to provide evidence of this. IMPORTANT: This is an active and physical role working across the Pet Hotel. The incumbent will be required to work indoors and outdoors (sometimes in inclement weather conditions, and in close proximity to dogs and cats, on their feet for the majority of their day. They are required to enter noisy environments that house high numbers of dogs to retrieve dogs and lead them to the separate training yards for training, as well as deliver verbal training to dogs and their owners, sometimes over the sound of the barking dogs which requires occasional raising of voice to be heard. On occasions when mentoring or training work placement students and other team members in dog training/handling techniques, the incumbent may be required to converse and speak for between 2-5 hours per day, with regular breaks and interaction with others. They must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, reach, stretch, and restrain animals (up to 50kg) on leads in order to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
