The Position
This is a key role in a friendly, motivated team liaising with farmers and NRM organisations to support long term ecological monitoring, in the temperate woodlands of south eastern Australia and other parts of Australia as required for monitoring the Australian Government's pilot agricultural stewardship program. The position will also be an emphasis on supporting outreach with NRM agency staff, Landcare networks and farmers in the Sustainable Farms area.
Multiple positions are available to join our long-term ecology monitoring team.
The Person
We are looking for a person who has genuine and demonstrated passion for ecological research on wildlife and vegetation in temperate woodlands and contributing to conservation in agricultural landscapes, with relevant degree in ecological/conservation science and/or agriculture and relevant fieldwork related experience in temperate woodlands. You will also have sound knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, experience in conducting high quality flora and fauna surveys in temperate woodland ecosystems (or transferable skills from other systems).
Successful applicant must have a willingness to travel outside of normal hours and work in remote locations when required (e.g. during intensive field camps of up to three weeks at a time). Preferred locations are Canberra or Wodonga offices.

Sustainable Farms is a trans-disciplinary research and extension initiative based in the Fenner School. Our mission is to support the improvement of natural features on farms in the temperate woodlands, to enhance biodiversity, increase farm profitability and improve farmer wellbeing. The successful applicant will provide research and advice to support research and policy activities undertaken by the Sustainable Farms initiative.
