Let's talk about the role:
As the Specialist Family Violence Children's Therapeutic Practitioner within at Nexus, you will provide interventions for victim survivors of family violence which aims to provide timely and appropriate counselling and therapeutic interventions to improve safety, emotional health, wellbeing, and sense of empowerment for victim survivors experiencing or recovering from family violence.
Services provided may include intake, risk assessment, information and referral, education, safety planning, individual and group counselling, and support. The service may also provide assistance to victim survivors seeking Intervention and Family Court orders through court support, advocacy and referral services.
The emphasis in this role is supporting children, and their safe and protective parent/carer.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
✅ Bachelors in social work or equivalent qualification and experience in Infant, Child & Adolescent related disciplines, including child development and/or therapy, education or counselling. (as set out in Mandatory Minimum Qualifications, Recommendation 209, Royal Commission into Family Violence).
✅Demonstrated knowledge and experience in providing specialist, age-appropriate therapeutic activities, and support to children in collaboration with their safe parent/carer.
✅Demonstrated ability to work with women and children facing a range of complex challenges in relation to family violence, homelessness, health and mental health, drug and alcohol use, trauma, and marginalisation.
✅Demonstrated ability to flexibly manage competing priorities and stressful situations, monitoring own stress levels and practicing and promoting self-care strategies.
✅The ability to apply a flexible, inclusive, non-judgmental, and empowering approach to practice and service delivery.
✅Strong communication and inter-personal skills including engagement and collaboration with a range of services and stakeholders.
✅Understanding of the principles of feminism, intersectionality and anti-oppression as both practice and organisational culture foundations.
