About Us: Gorilla Grind is located in the Brendale Industrial area. Offering specialty coffee and café style food. We are looking for an energetic and competent kitchen hand with a minimum of at least 1 year of experience for approximately 15-30 hours per week. The café is open 7 days per week and weekend work is required for this role, please only apply if you are able to work weekends (day hours only – no nights). Responsibilities • Food Preparation: Wash, peel, and chop vegetables and fruits, assist with basic cooking tasks such as boiling, frying, and steaming and prepare ingredients as directed by chefs • Cleaning and Sanitising: Clean kitchen surfaces, equipment, and utensils, wash dishes, pots, and pans, ensure all kitchen areas are kept clean and hygienic according to health and safety standards. • Stock Management: Unpack and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, and pantry areas, check and report stock levels to the cafe manager or head chef, rotate stock to ensure freshness and reduce waste. • Assisting Chefs and Cooks: Fetch ingredients and utensils as needed, assist in plating and garnishing dishes, follow instructions from chefs for various kitchen tasks. • Waste Management: Dispose of kitchen waste appropriately • Maintaining Equipment: Ensure kitchen equipment is in good working order, report any broken or malfunctioning equipment to the cafe manager • Closing of the kitchen at the end of the day: Turning off all equipment and cleaning procedures. • Adhering to Safety Standards: Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations. • Supporting the Kitchen Team: Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff, assist with special events or busy periods as needed, perform other duties as directed by the head chef or cafe manager. Requirements: • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar café • Knowledge of and adherence to food safety and hygiene regulations • Familiarity with common kitchen tools and equipment • Comfort in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to multitask and take a hands-on approach • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team • Excellent communication skills • Be available to work a rotation of open and closing shifts • Be available to work weekends If you’re passionate about coffee, cooking and the hospitality industry and share our commitment to fantastic customer service, we want to hear from you.
