The Women's and Children's Division at North Canberra Hospital (NCH) offers Maternity, Neonatal, and Gynaecology services to women and families in the ACT.
These services encompass antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, as well as gynaecological services, neonatal special care nursery support, and home care.
A multidisciplinary team, including Midwives, Medical staff, Allied Health professionals, and Nurses, delivers this care.
As a Level 4 Maternity service and Level 3 Special Care Nursery, NCH caters to women with normal or medium-risk pregnancies who are over 34 weeks gestation.
Currently, NCH supports around 1,900 women annually with perinatal care.
There are many exciting future innovations planned for Canberra including a commitment to expand continuity with a known midwife to 50% and eventually 75%.
In addition, in February 2025 NCH will implement the most generous staff to patient ratios in maternity care across Australia which includes the babies in the patient numbers.
This will result in Canberra midwives being genuinely supported to achieve safe, meaningful and satisfying work.
