ABOUT GEMCO Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world's manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963. ABOUT THE ROLE This role is a permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Domestic relocation assistance to Darwin or Cairns from anywhere in Australia is provided. As the Superintendent Marine & Compliance Operations, you are responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of marine operations at GEMCO. Manage vessel quality, optimise transit, collaborate across teams, and drive process improvements. You will provide strategic advice, handle incident management, and lead projects to boost operational standards and customer service. Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to: Provide comprehensive management for marine projects on-site, ensuring alignment with customer requirements. Conduct quality, safety, and survey inspections on 2+ vessels monthly, assessing condition and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Engage with logistics teams and stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient handling of cargoes, and identify opportunities for process improvements, recommending and implementing necessary changes. Enforce safety procedures and legislative requirements, including risk management for material and fatal risks. Deliver high standards of customer service, driving positive feedback and maintaining strong communication with business units and stakeholders. ABOUT YOU You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: Sea-Going experience as a Master Mariner is essential for understanding marine operations and compliance. A commitment to safety and continuous improvement. Strong numeric and analytical skills, strategic planning abilities, and sound negotiation skills. Qualifications for this position are: Maritime studies (or alike) is preferred. Sea going certificate and/or Harbour qualifications.
