The Sport Scientist is responsible for supporting the development and preparation of AFL players at Richmond Football Club using cutting-edge and advanced scientific knowledge and practices in the collection, analysis, and communication of relevant data. Working closely with the Performance Science and Nutrition Manager, the Sport Scientist collaborates with the High Performance and Coaching teams to optimise training and game-day performance.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Collect and manage GPS, wellness, musculoskeletal, and performance testing data, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.Communicate and present data insights to the Performance Science and Nutrition Manager, High Performance Manager, and Physiotherapists.Collaborate with the High Performance Manager, Football Analysts, and Coaches to optimize reports and support training programs.Perform game day duties, maintain sport science equipment, and ensure compliance with best practices.Stay updated on the latest advancements in sport science to enhance role performance.WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:Undergraduate Sport Science degree or similar (e.g., computer science with an interest in sport).ESSA accreditation or ability to obtain within 3 months.At least 2-3 years’ experience within an elite or professional sports environment (AFL experience preferred).Advanced computer skills with ability to code in any language (e.g., R, Python, Matlab etc.).Data visualisation skills in any application (e.g., Shiny, Tableau, PowerBI etc.).Postgraduate qualifications with a strong bias toward research is highly desirable.An analytical mindset with the ability to extract meaningful insights from complex data for optimal performance.Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.Meticulous attention to detail.Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.Adaptability and flexibility to respond to changing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.ABOUT US:Richmond Football Club is one of the largest clubs in the Australian Football League, proudly rooted in our rich history and tradition.
