An exciting opportunity to join the Department of Housing and Public Works' Legal Services team.
The Legal Services team are specialists who provide independent legal advice and representation related to the construction, commercial and public administration activities of the department and assist in the development of legislation.As Senior Legal Officer, you will assist with the protection of the legal interests of the Department of Housing and Public Works, specifically with respect to property, contractual and commercial matters.What You Will Be DoingProviding and ensuring the provision of quality, strategic, independent, and professional legal advice, and documentation to the departments about commercial law, property law and/or administrative law matters, with a focus on property and commercial law matters.Familiarity with the legislative enactment and amendment process will be considered beneficial.
Experience in statutory interpretation is essential.Drafting, preparing, and reviewing a range of legal documents including leases, licences, easements, service agreements, contracts of sale, goods and services contracts, funding agreements, confidentiality deeds, privacy notices and land titles forms, with minimum supervision.Maintaining a high level of knowledge of contemporary issues and legal risk impacting on property law and related government policies and initiatives.Providing State-focused, quality independent advice regarding dispute resolution and the management of litigation relating to commercial and property law.Reviewing the work of more junior legal officers.Please note that due to the recent Machinery of Government change, this department is now the Department of Housing and Public Works.Application ProcessWe are committed to a rolling selection process- part of an accelerated recruitment process.
