Our client is a privately owned company with a strong entrepreneurial background, successfully expanding through strategic acquisitions in the utilities sector. The company operates across Australia and New Zealand, distributing premium equipment and providing essential services to the agricultural and commercial sectors.
Following a period of rapid expansion, our client has grown to 105 staff across six sites, with an additional five sites joining in early 2025. To support this growth, the company has established an Executive Leadership Team and is now seeking a highly capable Group Finance Manager to help shape its financial future.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager of Finance, the Finance Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial function during this critical growth phase. Acting as the 2IC to the General Manager, this position will focus on establishing and refining financial processes, managing audits, and providing key insights to drive business performance.
Key Focus of the Role
Understanding Business Operations
1. Build strong relationships with Owners, General Managers, and Sales teams to enhance the relevance of financial reporting and analysis.
2. Analyse key business drivers in an industry with essential products and exclusive supplier agreements.
Establishing the Head Office Accounting Function
1. Oversee all financial activities, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
2. Work with the General Manager of Finance to create a head office accounting function.
3. Manage day-to-day finance operations, including month-end reporting, treasury, and compliance.
Leading the Annual Audit
1. Spearhead the preparation of the company’s first audited general-purpose financial statements in 2025.
2. Consolidate financial reports across multiple entities.
3. Act as the primary liaison with external auditors and ensure a smooth audit process.
Providing Analysis and Business Insights
1. Deliver timely and actionable financial analysis to support Owners, Operational General Managers, and Sales teams.
2. Interpret financial data to offer insights on inventory-heavy businesses.
3. Provide strategic recommendations to enhance business performance, profitability, and future acquisition targets.
Qualifications and Experience
This role is ideal for a CA or CPA-qualified finance professional with a degree in Commerce, Business, or a related field, looking to apply their external audit experience in a fast-paced, growing entrepreneurial business.
The successful candidate will have proven expertise in preparing general-purpose financial statements for external audits and managing month-end processes. Strong financial reporting skills, treasury and cashflow management experience, and the ability to develop robust financial controls are essential.
This position is best suited for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys building financial processes. Experience in project accounting and inventory management would be advantageous but is not essential.
