1. Inspection & Testing
1. Perform visual and dimensional inspections of mechanical components (e.g., pipes, valves, pumps, structural parts).
2. Conduct Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods like Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT).
3. Verify material certifications (e.g., EN (phone number removed).1/3.2) and compliance with BS, EN, ISO, ASME, or API standards.
2. Documentation & Compliance
1. Maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Control Plans (QCPs).
2. Ensure compliance with UKCA/CE marking, Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), PED (Pressure Equipment Directive), and other regulatory requirements.
3. Prepare Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT).
3. Welding & Fabrication QC
1. Monitor welding processes (e.g., TIG, MIG, Stick, Submerged Arc Welding).
2. Check weld integrity, alignment, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT).
3. Verify Welding Inspection Records (WIRs) and Welding Data Sheets (WDS).
4. Supplier & Vendor Quality Assurance
1. Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
2. Review supplier documentation (Material Test Certificates, Mill Certificates).
3. Perform source inspections at vendor facilities.
5. Defect Management & Corrective Actions
1. Identify non-conformities (NCRs) and raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
2. Work with production teams to implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
3. Ensure rework/rejection of defective parts.
6. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance
1. Follow COSHH, LOLER, PUWER regulations in the UK.
2. Ensure safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment.
7. Audits & Continuous Improvement
1. Conduct internal/external quality audits (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
2. Implement Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma principles for process improvement.
Required Qualifications & Skills
1. Certifications: CSWIP (Certified Welding Inspector) / PCN Level 2 (NDT) (for welding/NDT roles); ISO 9001 Lead Auditor (for QA roles).
2. Degree/HND: in Mechanical Engineering or relevant apprenticeship.
3. Experience: Knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines); familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS).
4. Soft Skills: Attention to detail, problem-solving, report writing, and communication.
