South West Healthcare is a public hospital which delivers more than 150 medical, nursing, mental health, allied health and community health services to the 110,000 people who live in Warrnambool, Moyne, Corangamite, Southern Grampians and Glenelg Shires. The Health Service has two public hospitals in Warrnambool and Camperdown with an area mental health service, an aged care facility, a Regional Logistics Distribution Centre and five community health centres. Public hospitals are entities operating under the Health Service Act (Vic) 1988 and are integral to the Victorian health system. The board is accountable to the Minister of the day for the delivery of health care to a high quality, safe and in a cost-effective way.
About the role
These positions provide an exciting opportunity for Victorians to contribute to the health and wellbeing of our communities. Applicants are selected for their capabilities, including personal and professional attributes, experience, knowledge, and skills that contribute to the strategic leadership and oversight of health care for the Victorian community.
Directors are required to attend in person eight board meetings per annum, to participate in board subcommittees and be available for other events requiring board representation. The role of the board includes:
* Setting the vision and strategy, in line with government priorities
* Having ultimate accountability for the delivery of safe and quality care, including cultural safety and freedom from discrimination, harassment and bullying
* Oversight of the performance and delivery of key policy priorities
* Ensuring the ongoing financial viability of the organisation
* Recruitment, support and monitoring of the Chief Executive Officer
Who we're looking for
While Victorian health boards are based on capabilities, boards are more effective when these capabilities also represent the richness of the diverse voices of the Victorian community. A diverse leadership of the health system that represents the variety of backgrounds and cultures of Victorian communities enables the vision of achieving the best health, wellbeing and safety for everyone.
To build an empowered and engaged leadership across the health system, the priority areas are First Nations people, people who live with a disability, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and gender diverse, Intersex, Queer and Asexual (LGBTIQA+), gender equality and upholding human rights.
