The Opportunity The Listed Equities team is part of the overall Investment Team and is responsible for managing the Fund’s listed equities portfolios. As a Director within the Listed Equities Team, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our Listed Equities (LE) strategy. The strategy is designed to capture and enhance the risk premia of listed equity markets. It is currently a hybrid of skill-based active managers and factor strategies, which have been developed in partnership with external investment managers. The LE portfolio spans domestic, international developed, and emerging market geographies with its exposures determined under the Future Fund’s Total Portfolio Approach. It is an expectation you will lead the development, research and implementation of solutions for investment problems. It is a requirement you hold a combination of deep domain expertise and proven people management skills with your highest-level direct report(s) being a Manager. You will often be directly accountable for owning external (manager or corporate) relationships. You will share the responsibility for setting the team culture, tone, ambition and people’s professional development. LE is a team within the Responsible Investment and Listed Equites pillar, and as a Director, you will report to and work closely with the Executive Director, Listed Equities. Please note that due to the upcoming holidays, we will not be reviewing applications until the week commencing 13th January 2025. Key Responsibilities The role focuses on contributing to the development and execution of the Listed Equities (LE) strategy, ensuring alignment with the overall portfolio’s risk and return objectives. This involves selecting the appropriate investment approach, style, and themes, as well as conducting manager due diligence, legal negotiations, and ongoing monitoring. The strategy integrates Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), as well as climate transition factors into investment decisions to align with the Fund's investment belief. It also incorporates reputational risk considerations. In addition to strategic contributions, the role emphasises developing investment insights and decision-making frameworks. The individual will create tools and processes to monitor trends, research developments, and risks in LE markets and portfolios, leveraging both internal research and external manager insights. Participation in forums and collaboration with colleagues will ensure these insights inform investment decisions at the total portfolio level, driving value across the Fund. Strong people leadership and relationship management are central to the role. The individual will mentor and develop team members, contribute to recruitment efforts, and support a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning. Externally, the role involves building and maintaining enduring relationships with investment managers, advisors, and other stakeholders, while enhancing the Fund’s reputation through active industry engagement and representation. About You Candidates should hold a university degree in disciplines such as Economics, Commerce, Finance, or Engineering, with postgraduate qualifications (e.g., MBA, CFA) considered highly desirable. Candidates should possess substantial expertise in listed equities markets and strategies, with a preference for global or emerging markets exposure. This experience is likely to stem from roles at asset managers or asset owners, such as fundamental analysts or portfolio managers, combined with a solid understanding of macroeconomic risks and portfolio construction considerations within a "whole of fund" framework. Key competencies for success include collaboration, innovation, and strategic thinking. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to engage in robust yet respectful debate, invite diverse viewpoints, and work effectively with various stakeholders. Innovation is equally critical, as the role demands a forward-thinking approach to generating insights, experimenting with new ideas, and embracing learning opportunities. Strategic thinking is essential for identifying and managing the broader implications of investment decisions while staying attuned to opportunities arising within the total portfolio context. Overall, the position seeks a senior investment professional who combines technical expertise in equities with the ability to lead and influence. This includes fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture, staying abreast of market developments, and maintaining a clear vision for integrating innovative solutions and strategic priorities into investment decision-making processes.
