Role Summary:
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. This includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. They may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
Responsibilities:
1. Operating Machine or Equipment: Operate basic equipment and machines and carry out routine tasks.
2. Operations Management: Carry out operational tasks by following established processes.
3. Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Assist in maintaining and repairing equipment by carrying out preparations and providing assistance.
4. Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow basic mandatory work instructions to safeguard the environment and the wellbeing of oneself and others.
5. Operational Compliance: Follow a straightforward mandatory procedure to ensure that work is carried out to the required quality standards and/or to ensure adherence to external regulatory codes and internal codes of conduct.
6. Precision Equipment Utilization: Interpret and use precision measuring equipment/instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, and depth gauges.
7. Instructions and Drawings: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and geometric tolerances.
8. Internal Communications: Exchange information with people by having courteous interactions with them.
9. Policy and Procedures: Work with guidance to understand policies and procedures, ensuring they align with organizational strategies and objectives.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
1. Australian recognised trade certificate.
2. Equipment Experience: few years of machining experience in a manufacturing or repair environment operating manual lathes, milling machines, or CNC lathes/mills.
3. Advanced Knowledge in Mathematics, Mechanics, and Metal Properties: Advanced understanding and application of mathematical principles, mechanical concepts, and metal properties related to machining processes.
4. Health and Safety: Apply elementary concepts to manage and apply safe systems of work.
Preferred Experience / Skills:
1. Verbal Communication: Use clear and effective verbal communication skills to express ideas and request actions.
2. Planning and Organizing: Work with guidance to plan, organize, and prioritize activities to efficiently meet business objectives.
