Booderee National Park (BNP) Board of Management is seeking an engaged, proactive and reliable individual to fill the role of Ecotourism representative Board member for a 5-year term. The Board is looking for someone ready to actively participate in meetings, contribute their expertise and insights, and play a hands-on role in guiding Ecotourism in BNP.
BNP is Aboriginal land and waters, owned by the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council (WBACC) and leased to the Director of National Parks. WBACC is the relevant Aboriginal Land Council for the park. BNP is jointly managed by WBACC and the Director of National Parks through the BNP Board of Management.
Role and responsibilities
* The functions of the BNP Board of Management are:
o to make decisions about the management of BNP that are consistent with the management plan in operation for the park;
o in conjunction with the Director of National Parks, to prepare management plans for BNP;
o monitor the management of BNP; and
o advise the Minister on all aspects of the future development of BNP.
The BNP Ecotourism representative Board member will:
* attend and actively engage with quarterly BNP Board of Management meetings and other relevant engagements;
* provide insights and expertise on ecotourism matters relevant to BNP;
* uphold the values and objectives of the BNP Board of Management;
* work closely with the Traditional Owner members of the BNP Board of Management to make decisions that protect the natural and cultural values of BNP and explore opportunities for sustainable cultural tourism experiences.
The BNP Board of Management meets four times a year, with eligible Board members paid for their time, travel and expertise, as per the Remuneration Tribunal (Remuneration and Allowances for Holders of Part-time Public Office) Determination 2024.
Eligibility and appointment
The BNP Ecotourism representative Board member is “a person knowledgeable about ecotourism activities within protected areas”. This Board member must be a person qualified to fulfil the position and be endorsed by the BNP Board of Management prior to appointment by the Minister for the Environment. Appointee is required to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check.
