Solicitor - Legal Officer Grade I-III - Broken Hill – Criminal Law Division - Ongoing Full-Time
Legal Aid NSW helps people experiencing disadvantage with their legal problems. We can help people with criminal, family and civil law issues. We give legal advice, represent people at courts and tribunals and provide family dispute resolution. Assistance is available over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.
About the Role
Provide legal advice and representation to clients of Legal Aid NSW, including minor assistance and casework service, in accordance with Legal Aid NSW policies and guidelines in order to contribute to the implementation of Legal Aid NSW’s mission to deliver high quality legal services to our clients and to assist them to resolve their legal problems.

The right person for this role will be dedicated to service excellence and committed to access for justice especially for those in regional and remote NSW. They will be committed to ongoing learning and development and be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of the community.
We may create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.

5. Broken Hill is one of NSW most remote cities and the first to be heritage listed. With a population of around 17,000 and servicing a number of local areas Broken Hill is the hub for many smaller local communities. Located approximately 1,114km from Sydney, 500km from Adelaide and 300km from Mildura and serviced by Regional Express Airlines and Qantas, Broken Hill is also only 48km from the South Australian Border. Made famous by immortalisation in a number of Australian films, Broken Hill is renowned for heritage and culture in a remote setting. The Broken Hill office of Legal Aid NSW services Broken Hill, Wentworth and Wilcannia and has two full time experienced criminal lawyers, a fulltime family lawyer and welcomes a range of visiting lawyers from all over NSW delivering local services.
The essential requirements for this role
You must:
6. be admitted or be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
7. be able to provide a current NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us
8. be willing to do a Criminal Record Check
9. be willing to do a working with Children Check
10. hold a valid Driving Licence
11. hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
