By joining our team in a senior capacity, you’ll uplift our ability to protect and enhance the biodiversity and heritage that make our rail network unique.About the roleKey responsibilities:Directly lead and manage a small group of Environmental Advisors (E&H), being responsible for their day-to-day resource management.Mentor and guide your E&H Advisors, supporting their development.Identify environmental risks and implement appropriate mitigations.Prepare Environmental Management System (EMS) documents, including Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP).Conduct site inspections, pre-start meetings, and staff/contractor inductions to ensure understanding of environmental controls.Provide practical advice on environmental management to onsite staff.Perform post-works inspections to verify satisfactory completion and clean-up.Offer technical advice on vegetation management and fire prevention.Prepare, review, and revise reports on environmental management at V/Line work sites.Complete environmental investigation reports as needed.Communicate environmental information to relevant stakeholders.Enhance awareness and understanding of environment and heritage management within V/Line.Liaise with Environment and Heritage regulators.Identify permitting requirements and obtain necessary permits and approvals.Site Visits & TravelThis role requires travel to sites throughout regional Victoria. It’s a great way to get out to the regions and see our beautiful State. About half your time will be based at our Flinders Street office and half your time will be out on site, where you will:Provide onsite support to significant asset management works to maintain compliance with environmental and heritage legislation and internal procedures.Attend site inspections, pre-start meetings, and staff/contractor inductions to verify there is an appropriate level of understanding of environmental controls (legislation, procedures, CEMPs).Undertake site inspections during works to ensure compliance with environmental controls.There will be some evenings, weekends, overnight stays, and overtime, with reimbursements for all travel-related meals and accommodation. A valid Driver Licence is essential, and a Tool-of-Trade vehicle will be provided. The ability to undertake solo journeys and operate a 4WD vehicle will be an advantage.About youTo be eligible for consideration to this role, it is essential that you have tertiary qualifications in a discipline such as Environmental Management, Applied Science, Ecology, or Sustainability.For each of the two roles, we are seeking a confident and capable professional who can demonstrate capability across the following key criteria:Team Leadership: Ability to lead a small team, coach and mentor, inspire and motivate. Experience in managing performance and development is a plus.Environmental Management Experience: Significant experience in Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, or related fields.Environmental Legislation and Systems: Understanding of Commonwealth and Victorian Environmental & Heritage legislation. Familiarity with EMS and ISO 14001:2015.Risk Management and Technical Skills: Proven ability to manage environmental risks. Knowledge of Victorian flora and fauna, and familiarity with relevant legislation.Industry Experience: Experience in rail or transport sectors preferred. Consideration given to experience in construction, land care, parks & wildlife, climate change consulting, or government environmental policy.Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Effective stakeholder engagement and consultation skills.
