The Team:
The Correctional Primary Health Service (CPHS) is part of the Tasmanian Health Service and provides primary healthcare to people in custody in Tasmania. We care for up to 800 people at a time, making us the largest primary healthcare provider in the state. Patient before prisoner.
Our team includes doctors, nurses, mental health specialists and other health professionals who work together to address both physical and mental health needs. We are dedicated to helping people in custody stay healthy and dignified and we focus on education, prevention and rehabilitation. We work with other services to ensure smooth care transitions when people are released from custody.
By collaborating and focusing on patient care, we support people’s health and reintegration, aiming for a healthier, fairer society.
The Role:
We’re recruiting for multiple Correctional Primary Health Nurses (full-time and part-time) to provide compassionate care to inmates in Tasmanian prisons. Our nurses practice every aspect of nursing and provide person-centred care in all aspects of primary health. We provide assessments, practice acute and chronic care, mental health care, medication management, respond to emergencies and provide education and support to inmates so they can maintain and improve their health.

You will need:
1. Current knowledge of, and the ability to apply nursing principles, procedures and practices in the delivery of patient/client care in a designated practice area and in line with legal requirements and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) National Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse.
2. Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including written skills and the ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
3. Knowledge of continuous quality improvement (safety and quality) and the application of evidence based practice in the practice setting.

Details of appointment:
Permanent, full time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $78,179 to $105,995 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
* Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
Access to the Grade 4 salary range $99,455- $105,995 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
* Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type.
