Your Opportunity
As Chef, you will provide quality products and services within the training restaurants and retail catering operations through the effective and efficient use of resources.
This position sits in the Restaurant and Bistro Team of the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality & Personal Services and reports to the Restaurant Manager.
This is a casual opportunity, to 31 December 2024 unless otherwise determined. It is based primarily at our South Bank campus however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
1. Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.
2. Live a safety culture, lead by example and support the Health Safety and Environment Management System to create a TAFE Queensland Brisbane-wide safety culture.
3. Maintain systems and work practices that ensure adherence to the requirements of Workplace Health and Safety legislation for commercial kitchens.
4. Maintain procedures for the effective and efficient operation of training restaurants.
5. Undertake all aspects of food preparation and cooking to ensure the provision of quality products and services to the standard expected for the successful operation of the faculty’s training restaurants.
6. Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with relevant Stakeholders within TAFE Queensland, including, but not limited to, the Restaurant Manager, Executive Chef, Professional Cookery and Hospitality Educators and Students.
7. Liaise with reservations and functions coordinators regarding the organisation, preparation and catering for functions and seminars.
8. Maintain standards in kitchen and food preparation areas, commensurate with those expected of a quality training environment and in accordance with food preparation and hygiene regulations.
9. Assist the Executive Chef with the functions of menu planning, ordering of food, food storage and food presentation.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
1.Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills in quality food production and presentation in a five-star environment.
2.Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, assume responsibility for quality of work output and to work within time constraints and meet deadlines.
3.Well-developed interpersonal skills and communication skills.
4.Knowledge of safety and hygiene regulations as they apply in kitchen and food preparation areas.
Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements
10. Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
Note: Proof of qualifications and industry currency/experience to be provided at interview.
Highly Desirable Requirements
11. Two (2) years’ experience, post obtainment of qualification.
