ABOUT THE JOB
This fantastic career starter opportunity is a 4 year Apprenticeship, where we will support you to complete a Certificate III – Painting and Decorating Trade (Cert III in Painting and Decorating). As the Apprentice Painter you will gain technical knowledge, develop valuable skills and gain hands-on experience whilst studying towards a qualification. You will operate in a team environment and undertake works on Council’s building assets. Training will be provided both on-the-job and at Maitland TAFE, Metford Campus.
This is an entry-level position designed to develop, support and mentor the successful applicant in all aspects of the Painting trade.
In this role, we will support you to:
* Learn on the job and perform duties to achieve the required skill to complete the training requirements
* Develop knowledge in Painting and Decorating, including application methods such as surface preparation, patching and the maintenance of painting tools and equipment
* Gain a deep understanding of the trade and work with knowledgeable Tradespersons in a team environment
* Deliver high-level customer service to both internal and external customers, representing Lake Mac
* Adhere to WHS responsibilities
The position is located at Lake Mac Council Works Depot at Boolaroo and involves travel to multiple areas within Lake Macquarie. You will be rostered to work between 6am and 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, and occasionally on weekends with notice.
Candidates who have completed a Cert III Painting and Decorating qualification or higher may not be eligible to apply.
WHAT WE OFFER
* Receive a wage whilst studying towards a qualification starting from $593.69 per week (if 16 years of age), $698.63 per week (if 17 years of age), $816.52 (18+ years of age), plus 12 per cent superannuation
* Payment of all course fees
* Paid time to study and attend compulsory classes
* Adverse Working Conditions Allowance per hour $0.51
* Yearly pay reviews and increases based on performance
* 38 hour working week with nine-day fortnight
* Four weeks paid annual leave
* Be mentored and work closely with a Team of qualified Tradespeople in a supportive, empowering, innovative and collaborative work environment
* Have a minimum of Year 10 High School Certificate (or finishing Year 10 this year)
* Are interested in Painting and furthering their career
* Are committed to completing the training course requirements over 4 years
* Enjoy working in a team
* Have a good attention to detail and ensure their work area is kept clean and tidy
* Hold a minimum of Provisional Drivers Licence
