What we are looking for:
Due to retirement, we are seeking to add to our development team, the purpose of the role is to facilitate good quality development while preserving environmental values for future generations. We seek a qualified Engineer to provide specialist engineering expertise whilst providing leadership, mentoring in the delivery of development assessment and construction inspection services in accordance with relevant legislation and council procedures.
What your day will look like:
* Conduct efficient, accurate, timely and thorough processing of development applications to ensure compliance with Councils Planning Scheme and policy.
* Assess and decide the engineering component of all types of development applications and recommend appropriate conditions, both standard and site specific for inclusion in development approval. Assist in assessment in negotiation with consultant’s acceptable design solutions, recommending alternatives where appropriate.
* Discuss and solve non-compliance engineering issues or construction nuisances with customers.
* Carry out compliance inspections of construction works, identify design and construction practices that will result in high maintenance liability and recommend appropriate variation to standards.
* Support the Development Engineering team in identification of construction methods and quality control of fieldwork.

What you’ll need for success:
* AQF 6 or above in Civil Engineering or equivalent
* Current C Class Drivers License
* White Card
* Demonstrated skills interpreting and applying legislation relevant to Local Government proving your knowledge of the Planning Act 2016 and associated legislation and regulations or similar.
* Demonstrated experience and knowledge in civil design/construction and development assessment approvals and procedures.
* Well-developed communication skills, specifically: a) Written: research, compile and present reports to Council and its delegates. b) Interpersonal: consult, advise and negotiate with external customers and stakeholders and with staff at all levels of the organisation. c) People management: mentor, motivate and work as an active team participant.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise competing workloads and use time management techniques to perform duties in an efficient and effective manner.
* Demonstrated ability to research, investigate and analyse proposals and illustrate these skills in the implementation of best practice engineering principles.
* Sound knowledge of electronic systems and software.
