Take ownership of mechanical design initiatives with major clients across Australia.
IPS Australia is currently looking for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer based at our Head Centre, Somersby NSW to provide support to the IPS team, clients, and various represented companies in regard to mechanical/technical design and reverse engineering.
The successful candidate will have:
Good engineering knowledge in rotating equipment.
Expert knowledge & experience in design and reverse engineering processes.
Succession plan to head the Engineering Department.
Your role main responsibilities will include:
Laser scanning, probing & post-processing of data for the purpose of reverse engineering & fault finding of machinery components.
Use of Solidworks to develop designs/models & manufacturing drawings of machinery components, rotor preservation and storage containers (pressurized and nitrogen purged), support frames for turbomachinery, transport frames, installation skids (to API standards), and other supporting structures for turbomachinery casings and rotors.
Specifying geometric & dimensional tolerances, as per AS1100 requirements, for manufacturing & refurbishment of machinery components.
Understanding of DIN, ISO, JIS and other common international standards and be able to homologate to a common standard AS1100.
Investigating and identifying requirements for new designs and identifying applicable standards and regulation requirements for designs.
Designing special tooling required by technicians for major overhauls.
Completing FEA’s using Solidworks.
Completing engineering calculations as part of designing/reverse engineering of machinery components & assemblies:
Stud tension & stress
Compressive stress
Radial deflection
Hoop stress
Stress concentration factor
Liaising with multiple manufacturing contractors with technical specification sheets along with the drawings to obtain tenders.
Development of technical specification sheets for manufacturing of components by suppliers.
Development of specific internal quality documentation (ITP’s, IRS, Work Procedures) for service activities in conjunction with workshop manager & field service manager:
ITP: Inspection and Test Plan
IRS: Inspection and record sheet

Education:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering from a reputed university.
Training in Solidworks or other CAD software.
In-house and Overseas product training can be arranged as and when needed on product knowledge in the areas of Turbine, compressor, and pumps.
Specialised Knowledge & Skills:
Good engineering knowledge on rotating machinery like steam turbines, axial, radial, reciprocating and screw compressors, pumps and other rotating equipment.
Good understanding/knowledge of quality and safety management systems.
Use of FEA (finite element analysis) software.
