Job Responsibilities
As a Building Surveyor, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our community. You will provide high-quality assistance and expert technical advice to ensure the delivery of innovative, efficient, and compliant building services that meet both statutory requirements and community expectations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service
* Offer professional and timely advice to management, staff, and the public.
* Interpret and apply technical concepts to resolve complaints, address problems, and explain policies.
* Represent the organization positively through efficient responses to public inquiries across various channels.
Application of Technical Skills
* Assess and determine development applications, ensuring compliance with legislative provisions and policies.
* Evaluate construction and complying development certificate applications, enforcing adherence to approvals and the Building Code of Australia.
* Conduct critical stage inspections and other regulatory inspections, addressing non-compliance promptly.
* Develop strategies and programs to enhance regulatory adherence and operational efficiency.
* Maintain a strong understanding of the Building Code of Australia and related legislation, sharing knowledge with team members.
* Investigate and resolve complaints related to building services.
* Prepare correspondence and reports in line with organizational guidelines.
* Maintain accurate records, including contemporaneous notes for matters with potential legal implications.
* Contribute to policy development and create public-facing materials that communicate organizational policies clearly.
Qualifications
* Degree-level qualifications (or equivalent) in Building Surveying.
* Accreditation as an unrestricted or restricted Building Surveyor (NSW Fair Trading).
* Experience assessing and determining development applications.
* Expertise in swimming pool certification under NSW regulations.
* Exceptional communication skills, including conflict resolution and technical reporting.
* Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a team.
* Experience mentoring and supervising building surveying staff.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software.
* Current Class C driver’s license.
* Understanding of EEO and WHS principles and their practical application.
* Knowledge of Local Government, Environmental Planning, and Building and Development Certifiers legislation.
* Previous local government experience.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development.
