About Blackwater Mine: Situated 73 kilometres south-east of Emerald, Blackwater mine is the second-largest open-cut metallurgical coal mine in the Bowen Basin. This long-life operation began in 1967 and has grown to become one of the longest coal mines in the Southern Hemisphere, with a strike length of 80 kilometres, operating seven draglines. Blackwater produces over 11Mtpa of high quality metallurgical and thermal coal for the seaborne export market. The Role We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Superintendent – Commercial to join our new Blackwater Mine team and will be based on Site, reporting to the Manager – Commercial. This diverse role supports the Commercial Department to manage the financial and accounting functions of the mine Site including facilitating the effective execution of budgetary, forecasting and financial analysis. In addition to the provision of timely and accurate information, the Superintendent – Commercial will liaise and build relationships with key stakeholders, corporate teams and the senior management team. The Superintendent - Commercial works in conjunction with the corporate Procurement and Commercial Operations teams within the Contract Management Framework, to support Contract Holders with tendering, managing contracts, identifying cost saving opportunities and ensuring compliance to contractual terms and conditions, including KPIs whilst mitigating risks. What You’ll Do Actively participate in safety field leadership activities. Analyse monthly physical and financial performance against budget/forecast. Liaise with Mine Planning, Production and Marketing & Logistics personnel to capture budget/forecast driver information. Work with department Managers and Superintendents to develop detailed cost budgets/forecasts. Prepare financial results presentations/reports and clearly articulate and communicate key messages. Work with key stakeholders and lead all aspects of contract management for Site, from initial scope development, tendering, negotiation, execution, ongoing monitoring of performance and close out. Conduct analysis of improvement/value creation opportunities, cost saving initiatives and contractor spend. Analyse current operations and use valuation methodologies to evaluate improvement opportunities. What You’ll Bring Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce or Accounting Professional membership of either CA or CPA required Qualifications or competencies in contract management preferred Minimum 8 years’ experience, with 4+ years being in an operational Site based role Experience in a capital-intensive industry (preferably mining, manufacturing or heavy industry) Significant exposure to accounting and reporting, budgeting and reforecasting Experience in the use of SAP and IBM Planning Analytics and contractor management software highly regarded Why Whitehaven Coal?
