About the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available Senior Engineering Technical Officer - Design
The role will support the overall objective of:
* Lead and assist the team in designing the City’s program of roads, drainage, footpaths work.
* Investigate and design strategic infrastructure projects
* Provide technical advice to both internal and external stakeholders.
* Develop and review Council specifications and policies in consultation with the Coordinator Engineering Design.
* Assist with input of the preparation of the infrastructure 10-year Capital Works Program.
* Liaise with Coordinator Engineering Operations regarding Opex and Capex projects for infrastructure upgrades.
* Prepare cost estimates for the City’s Capital works as per the agreed work program.
* Train and Mentor Junior members of the team.

To be successful in this role you will need:
Selection Criteria
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Can lead a small team of designers and drafter.
* Well Developed information technology skills encompassing the ability to use Microsoft Office and AutoCAD at an advanced level.
* Comprehensive Knowledge of Australian Standards, Austroads Standards, Main Roads Western Australia Design Standards and approval process.
* Demonstrated Civil Engineering design knowledge
* Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
* Developed communication skills to enable the effective provision of advice to staff, design consultants and contractors.
Desirable Criteria
Local government experience is desirable
Experience:
* Experience in or a comprehensive working knowledge of Local Government
* Minimum of 5 years industry experience.
* Experience in a supervisory position
Qualifications and/or Training
* Tertiary Qualification in Civil Engineering and a minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
* Advanced drafting skills using CAD system and excellent understanding of design standards in relation to Council projects
* Current Western Australian C Class Driver’s Licence.
* Valid Construction awareness Training (White Card).
* A current National Police Clearance (if less than 6 months)
* A current ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence
