No Offer Description Based in UniSA STEM at the Mawson Lakes campus Full-time, fixed term contract until 1st of January 2026 About the Role The Research Associate will drive the research efforts within UniSA STEM, contributing to innovative solutions for the 'Enhancing the RAN's Undersea Surveillance Minimum Viable Capability' project. Reporting to a Professorial Lead, this role will support critical advancements in Defence and National Security, specifically by developing mathematical and AI-driven models to optimise the deployment of uncrewed surface vehicles for undersea surveillance in varying threat environments. The role collaborates with UniSA researchers and external partners to drive advancements in AI for undersea surveillance. Core Responsibilities Undertake research under limited supervision to achieve project grant outcomes according to project milestones Develop Bayesian models to infer target detection probabilities, accounting for variables such as platform speed, target noise, depth profiles, and environmental parameters Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance user interaction through advanced NLP methods, enabling natural language enquiries Prepare or contribute to journal publications, conference, and seminar papers Provide advice to post graduate students in the appointee's area of expertise Contribute to the Unit teaching activities, including developing research-related materials Essential Skills and Experience A doctorate or postgraduate degree in a Science or Engineering field relevant to the research area NV1 security clearance or eligibility to obtain it Research experience with a focus on Bayesian modelling Proven record of high-quality research outputs, published and presented in relevant forums Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through publications, reports, and collaboration with external partners, colleagues, and students Culture At the University of South Australia, we value workplace diversity and are committed to providing a supportive, inclusive, and respectful work environment for all people.
