Location: Kununurra Health Campus, WAPosition Type: Fixed Term Full TimeSalary (North 26th Parallel): $364,483 - $431,836About the RoleAre you seeking an opportunity to enhance mental healthcare in one of Australia's most unique and culturally rich regions?We are looking for a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Service, based at Kununurra Hospital.This is a Fixed Term Full-Time appointment until June 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension or permanency, subject to ongoing funding.Key Responsibilities:Deliver comprehensive mental health services across East Kimberley, including Kununurra, Warmun, Halls Creek, Kalumburu, and Wyndham.Provide clinical care to consumers, families, and carers, offering leadership, consultation, and support to healthcare professionals and partner agencies.Utilize telehealth services and travel to deliver community-based care.Mentor and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatry registrars, Aboriginal Liaison Officers, nurses, and allied health professionals.Lead the Psychiatry Liaison Nurse Service, ensuring thorough reviews of emergency mental health cases.Work closely with Aboriginal Liaison Officers to provide culturally sensitive care, particularly for a patient population that is 80-90% Aboriginal.Unique Aspects of the Role:No on-call duties required due to inpatient ward location in Broome (approximately 1000 km away).Potential future model may involve working from Broome one week in five to enhance on-call work and peer engagement.Input from the successful candidate on this model is encouraged.About the RegionThe Kimberley is a breathtaking, culturally diverse region offering incredible natural attractions such as Purnululu (the Bungle Bungles), Lake Argyle, and Mitchell Plateau.
