The NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc. (NSW AECG) is a non-profit Aboriginal organisation dedicated to providing advice on education and training, ensuring that Aboriginal community viewpoints are considered in decision-making processes. It aims to promote respect, empowerment, self-determination, and equal partnership through collaborative consultation.Primary Role: The organisation advocates for Aboriginal people's active participation in shaping education and training policies to help every Aboriginal child and young person in NSW achieve their potential.Network: The NSW AECG’s strength comes from its extensive network of 145 Local AECGs, 20 Regional AECGs, a State Committee, and an Association Management Committee. This structure allows the Aboriginal community's voice to be reflected at both State and Commonwealth levels. The organisation is volunteer based but supported by a Secretariat workforce of approximately 50 staff across NSW.About the roleThe COO provides leadership for the Secretariat’s operations, ensuring that it functions in alignment with the President/Chief Executive's policies and goals. They lead finance, administration, program, and service delivery while driving growth and transformation for the organisation.About youTo be successful in this role, you will have a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities, and networks, as well as the challenges affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, particularly in education and training. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to engage with diverse audiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and government stakeholders, are essential.Highly organised and can manage high volume, complex changing priorities.Strong management communication and collaboration skills to work cohesively with stakeholders to deliver results.Ability to work with a team autonomously.Key Selection CriteriaLead operational functions to provide effective services to the NSW AECG network and education sectors.Implement the strategic plan to transform and expand the Secretariat's services.Oversee performance management and strategic budgeting.Participate in critical governance and decision-making processes.Represent NSW AECG in consultations with external stakeholders, including government bodies.Provide strategic advice to the President and Association Management Committee.Additional ConditionsManage transformation while maintaining business-as-usual operations.Drive cultural change within the Secretariat to overcome siloed operations.Streamline processes to meet the growing organisational needs.Support effective decision-making for the Secretariat's continued efficiency.The COO makes strategic decisions in consultation with the President and sets performance targets and objectives for the Secretariat.
