Neerim District Secondary College is a small rural school of 220 students, situated in the picturesque town of Neerim South at the foot of the Baw Baw ranges. The school offers our students and staff an attractive, settled, and inclusive environment with spacious grounds.
Our vision is to empower our students to become the best version of themselves. Our school is a community that cares for and respects one another. We pride ourselves on our staff working as a cohesive unit to support students and families to achieve their goals.
Our values developed by students, staff, and the community include:
1. Community - We have a strong sense of belonging to the school community and welcome everyone.
2. Respect - We have due regard for the feelings, wishes, and/or rights of others.
3. Perseverance - We admire and encourage others to continue to persevere in spite of barriers.
4. Leadership - We strongly encourage students to undertake leadership roles but also to take on leadership behaviours.
We offer a strong Year 7-10 Curriculum based on the Victorian Curriculum with a wide range of performing and visual arts, and design technology classes, available to students in the junior and middle years. Our Year 9 students spend one-fifth of their year participating in an applied learning inquiry-based program designed to support the development of students' interpersonal, problem-solving, critical thinking, and creative thinking skills.
Students in Years 10-12 have access to a broad range of VCE subjects offered through on-site face-to-face classes and blended delivery methods. We also offer a strong VCE-Vocational Major (VM) program at Years 10-12. Students completing VCE-VM are supported to enrol in a VET Certificate with external providers and complete Structured Workplace Learning one day per week.
Through the work of passionate and dedicated Student Wellbeing and Student Inclusion Teams, our school provides meaningful interventions and supports that ensure we meet all students' individual learning and wellbeing needs.
Neerim District Secondary College receives strong and ongoing support from the Neerim South community and students are regularly involved in volunteering and supporting local community events. Our school is a destination school with increasing enrolments, supportive parents and families, and a motivated and progressive team of staff.
Selection Criteria
1. Demonstrated relevant experience/knowledge at supporting students with disabilities and additional needs, along with knowledge of the way students learn and the strategies that can be utilised to support them.
2. Demonstrated ability to work closely and constructively with students and parents while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
3. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills in collaborating with all members of the school community, including students, staff, parents, and employers. Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team within an educational setting.
4. Demonstrated the ability to work independently and take initiative when performing various tasks associated with the role.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office systems, software, or technical equipment as relevant to the position.
6. Demonstrated commitment to professional learning and growth, fostering development for both self and others.
Role
This role is 1 FTE 8am - 4pm, 5 days per week. Some flexibility may be negotiated for the successful applicant.
Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Quick Smart Tutor Program Ed Support will primarily be to support students delivering the Quick Smart Intervention Program either one-to-one or in small groups.

2. Encourage and motivate students, fostering a positive learning environment.
3. Refer any well-being matters to relevant staff.
4. Maintain accurate records of student attendance.
5. Collaborating with a variety of staff across the school, including classroom teachers, team leaders, learning specialists and ES within various support teams, to ensure students have their individual needs met.
6. Reports data to leadership team.
7. Other duties as assigned by college leadership.
Who May Apply
Individuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
EEO AND OHS Commitment
Applicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and, if they are the successful candidate, request a reduced time fraction. Such requests will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis and will be subject to the operational requirements of the school.
