North Tom Price Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.
About the position
As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will assist teachers with providing support for students with special needs. You will, under general supervision and guidance, assist in the implementation of specialised education programs. Additionally, you will assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers and digital technologies, and implement individual student or small group programs or demonstrations.
Within this role you would provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education. The successful applicant will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos, and priorities across the school community.
Suitable applicants will ideally have strong behaviour management skills particularly around challenging behaviour. An understanding of supporting students to self-regulate and social skill development is beneficial.

North Tom Price PS is one of two primary schools located at Tom Price in the Pilbara region of WA, approximately 1465 km from Perth. The school has very green and attractive grounds and is surrounded by the nearby hills of the Karijini National Park and the Hamersley Ranges. The renowned Karijini National Park is a short drive away providing a picturesque recreational area to visit and enjoy. The school presently delivers educational programs to around 270 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 .
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
1. Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents, and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
2. Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
3. Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
4. Ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
5. Knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
6. Ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.

15. Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
16. Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
