Merit list/pools and how they will be used
Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy may be placed in a merit list or pool. If the applicant agrees, the results may be shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies for filling similar roles. Applicants may be offered a future role, without the need to reapply. A merit list or pool may be used for up to 18 months. This merit list/pool may be used to fill other vacancies in Various locations - ACT.

The key duties of the position include:
Leading an experienced team, you will report to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Policy and Programs and be responsible for bringing the voice of our clients, and of Australian business more broadly, to the policy table. You will monitor and respond to international trade, investment and tourism policy issues, and collaborate across Austrade, government and clients to achieve the best possible operating environment for business, while bringing Austrade insights and perspectives into Commonwealth Government policy development processes.
To be successful as the General Manager, Government and Policy you will have substantial policy acumen, with commercial experience also an advantage; a sound knowledge of global economic trends and the Australian Government’s trade, investment, tourism and industry policies; experience leading teams through change and growing capability; and a track record of delivering in complex operating environments. Global experience in public policy will be highly regarded.
As General Manager, Government and Policy, you will also lead the support for our Ministers, including managing the processes for New Policy Proposals (NPP), Ministerial briefing and correspondence, Cabinet submissions, question time briefing, Senate Estimates and the preparation of responses to questions on notice (QoN). The Division is also the central liaison point for Austrade offshore posts into government and coordination of Ministerial briefings.
