Senior Sustainability Adviser About us The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services. About the role The Senior Sustainability Adviser will lead a program of work aimed at improving the strategic sustainability and environmental management outcomes for the DGS managed portfolio. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a program of work that will directly impact Victoria's Climate emissions targets. The DGS managed portfolio is diverse, spanning over 1 million square meters of leased and owned premises, across Victoria. This new role aims to elevate the efforts in sustainability outcomes by integrating environmental considerations across the organisation. Key deliverables will include development of sustainability strategies and business cases requiring capital expenditure in collaboration with government occupants, leading targeted portfolio level and whole of building strategies focused on operational expenditure optimisation and building energy performance monitoring. Reporting to the Director, Accommodation Strategy and Planning, the role works in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders across public and commercial sectors, ensuring ACLS delivers effective and consistent services that align with the Department of Government Services and Victorian Government Climate targets. The role will provide technical advice and reporting to key stakeholders across ACLS, DGS and government departments and agencies it services, ensuring high quality environmental and sustainability outcomes are delivered across the organisation. Key Accountabilities Lead the sustainability function to ensure service excellence for clients and instil the highest level of environmental governance into functions across the division. Lead the development of sustainability strategies and plans for the DGS managed portfolio, aligned with Victoria's climate action targets. Provide expert level advice on the Victorian Government sustainability targets and relevant legislation, policies and procedures. Build and maintain constructive relationships with external service providers, client departments, agencies and key stakeholders to provide advice and deliver effective reporting and service outcomes. Identify current and emerging risks associated with the function, sharing insights and supporting mitigations with relevant ACLS/outsourced provider teams and executives. Provide advice to internal stakeholders including project service delivery and facilities maintenance streams to strengthen environmental performance and outcomes across the Victorian Government owned and leased office accommodation portfolio. Analyse data and develop business cases that support environmental uplift in the built environment. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support programs across the organisation and track the benefit of implemented initiatives. To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate: Demonstrated experience and high proficiency in sustainability advisory and sustainability strategy development in the commercial property sector. Provide authoritative and expert advice to executives and other key internal and external clients on sustainability industry standards, frameworks, legislation and policy. Ability to analyse complex internal and external data from a range of sources to produce meaningful reports, briefs, strategic recommendations and communicate effectively with an executive leadership team. Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with sound judgment and capacity to make decisions and recommendations where diverse interests need to be considered. Works across government and senior levels to develop and deliver outcomes. Strong negotiation and strategic relationship management skills and experience building networks with diverse stakeholders in a complex, sensitive, and dynamic environment. Mandatory requirements Tertiary qualification/bachelor's degree in environmental management or similar or relevant discipline.
