We are seeking a talented Systems Engineer to join the IT department and play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the organisations technological infrastructure. As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and support of our network and systems infrastructure. You will work closely with other IT professionals and stakeholders to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of systems. The ideal candidate for this role is somebody with strong systems and infrastructure experience looking to move into a leadership role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design, deploy, and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs.
2. Manage and administer servers, both physical and virtual, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
3. Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions.
4. Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure uninterrupted operation.
5. Conduct system upgrades and patches in a timely manner to mitigate security risks.
6. Collaborate with other IT staff and departments to support business operations and initiatives.
7. Develop and maintain documentation for systems, processes, and procedures.
8. Provide technical support and training to end-users as needed.
Requirements:
9. Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
10. Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or similar role, preferably in a municipal or government setting.
11. In-depth knowledge of network protocols, technologies, and best practices.
12. Proficiency in managing Windows and Linux server environments.
13. Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
14. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
15. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
16. Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, MCSE, VCP) are desirable but not essential.
