About the Role:
A Safety Officer is required to work closely with departments, integrating and embedding safety into everyday operations to ensure a safe working environment.
This 12-month role involves a 7/7 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of occupational health and safety principles and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain the effectiveness of the GEMCO H&S management systems and processes.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to identify, develop, and implement improvement initiatives.
* Ensure stakeholders meet or exceed regulatory requirements by keeping up to date with relevant legislation and ensuring compliance.
* BUILD STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS ALL LEVELS TO INTEGRATE AND SUSTAINABLY EMBED SAFETY SYSTEMS/TOOLS INTO THEIR DEPARTMENTAL RHYTHMS AND ROUTINES.
* Deliver specialist, independent, and technically capable safety support to line leaders and Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs).
* FACILITATE INCIDENT INVESTIGATION PROCESS (ICAM) AND GUIDE INVESTIGATION TEAMS THROUGH ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS AND DEVELOPMENT OF SMART AND APPROPRIATE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS.
* Participate in WRACs Regularly monitor and report on Health & safety performance for stakeholders, including hazard identification, closure of actions, and compliance audits.
* Assist and support Stakeholders in identifying trends and implementing safety performance improvements.
* Provide technical support to the GEMCO operation during scheduled Concentrator and Port outages (Shutdowns) where required.
* Demonstrate adherence to behaviours that are consistent with South32s Values;?South32 Code of Business Conduct and Life Saving Rules Demonstrate safe work behaviours and practices, including effectively identifying, reporting, and controlling hazards and risks to reduce incidents and injuries / illnesses or escalate and escalate where unable to control risk.
* DRIVE SAFETY CULTURE PROMOTE A STRONG SAFETY CULTURE THROUGH COMMUNICATION, TRAINING, AND LEADERSHIP COACHING AND ENGAGEMENT ACROSS ALL LEVELS.
* Undertake routine safety activities such as preparation of first shift back presentation, ICAM Assurance reviews, HSR Committee meeting preparation, compilation of safety reports, Action closure verification activities.
Requirements:
* Minimum of 3 years experience in an operational environment with safety.
* Demonstrated ability to influence internal stakeholders through effective data analysis and communication skills (written and verbal).
* Capable of working with minimal supervision and able to self-manage priorities.
* Experience in identifying issues, analyzing data, and recommending practical improvement solutions.
* Cert IV Safety or Occupational Health (Minimum). Diploma of Health & Safety and/or Bachelors Degree/Diploma (Science / Safety /Engineering / Similar) or relevant trade/engineering degree.
* ICAM or similar.
Salary:$90,000 - $110,000 per annum
