Role description:
Working closely with our Technical Directors and Discipline Lead, you will be taking on an important role on national projects within the Rail Traction Power sector. This role aims to deliver quality traction power and earthing and bonding designs whilst mentoring and providing technical guidance to upcoming Engineers. You will also be provided with support and training to further develop your skills and career.
Role accountabilities:
1. To manage the traction power and/or earthing and bonding component of projects whilst meeting budgetary, quality, safety and timeframe targets. This includes: AC and DC traction substation system design including preparation of single line diagrams, layouts, circuit diagrams, earthing and bonding schematics, and coordination of the design with communication, civil, structural and mechanical design disciplines AC and DC traction power system studies including equipment sizing, fault calculations and insulation coordination studies Coordination of the traction power system with overhead wiring and signalling system design Lightning protection system design Earthing system analysis and design including pipeline LFI studies Earthing, bonding and electrolysis assessment and design
2. AC and DC traction protection systems analysis, setting, specification and design
3. Use technical knowledge to identify and realise new client opportunities and to provide technical input into the bidding process.
4. Provide technical expertise and overview to client and stakeholders and to assist clients through technical decision-making and provide alternative options/solutions if there are changes to project parameters.
Qualifications & Experience:

5. 8+ years experience as power systems engineer, with at least 3 years recent experience in traction power system design or equivalent;
6. Tertiary qualification in electrical/power engineering, preferably chartered engineering and RPEQ status;
7. Excellent spoken and written communication skills including a working knowledge of MS Office;
8. Highly regarded skills include: Experience in a design consultancy role Demonstrated ability to lead the design teams and and deliver traction design packages The experience of working with traction power system modelling software tools. The ability to develop complex earthing and induction models in CDEGS earthing system software The ability to develop traction power system models in ETAP or equivalent software tool. The ability to develop transient studies in ATP/PSCAD/EMTP The ability to develop EMC management plans and manage the EMC management procedure. The ability to develop maintenance strategies and procedures, commissioning plans and documentation
