Lead a small team while staying hands-on with product design and problem-solving.
Improve engineering processes and optimise designs for manufacturability.
Fast-growing company investing in digital engineering and new products.
Looking for your next step? Lead a small team while staying on the tools. Work on challenging engineering projects in a fast-growing company with global ambitions.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on team lead role for an experienced design engineer ready to step up and take charge of a small, high-performing team.
You will lead day-to-day engineering operations, working closely with the Engineering Manager to execute the product development roadmap, improve design processes, and deliver high-quality, made-to-order products.
Lead & Support – Work alongside a small team, assign tasks, troubleshoot technical challenges, and coach junior engineers on best practices.
Own the Design Process – Take concepts from idea to production, creating and refining CAD models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
Digital Tools & Automation – Work with parametric design, 3D CAD, and engineering automation.
Configure-to-Order & Engineer-to-Order – Support pre-production engineering and manufacturability.
This is a practical, execution-focused role—perfect for a strong engineer who wants more responsibility without stepping away from technical work.
The Role
You will lead and work alongside a small Product Design & Engineering team, helping to develop products, improve designs, and streamline engineering workflows.
Key responsibilities:
1. Lead & Support – Work alongside your team, provide guidance, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure smooth execution of projects.
2. Own the Design Process – Refine CAD models, improve design standards, and ensure manufacturability of products.
3. Pre-Production Engineering – Optimise designs for efficient, high-quality manufacturing (DFMA, compliance).
4. Application Engineering – Provide technical expertise to support sales and client-specific modifications.
5. Engineering Process Improvement – Standardise design workflows, implement best practices, and streamline execution.
6. Technology & Digital Tools – Use CAD, parametric design, and simulation tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.
This role is heavily involved in execution—you’ll be working hands-on with the Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Engineering team, and Production team to make things happen.
First 12-18 months priorities:
1. Improve and document design processes and workflows.
2. Implement parametric design principles to automate repetitive work.
3. Standardise and refine our configure-to-order product range.
4. Work closely with manufacturing to improve design for manufacture (DFMA).
The Ideal Candidate
We need a practical, hands-on engineer who enjoys both leading and doing—someone who can solve problems, guide a team, and improve our product designs.
You will be:
1. Independent, proactive, and structured – Take responsibility and own your work.
2. A problem-solver – Identify issues, troubleshoot solutions, and refine engineering processes.
3. Technically strong – A first-principles thinker with excellent attention to detail.
4. Practical and hands-on – Comfortable working directly on CAD models and engineering tasks.
Experience we’re looking for:
1. Engineering degree (Mechanical or similar).
2. 5+ years in product design & engineering in a manufacturing environment.
3. Strong CAD skills (Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar), including parametric and modular design.
4. Pre-production engineering & design-for-manufacture experience.
5. Some team leadership or mentoring experience (leading drafters, junior engineers, or small teams).
This role is ideal for a Senior Engineer looking to take on leadership responsibilities without stepping away from technical work.
