Your new role
Our client is seeking an experienced Renewable Energy Development Manager to lead the identification, evaluation, and execution of renewable energy projects, including solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The Development Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of development up until Final Investment Decision for renewable energy projects. You will be working closely with the wider Development team and Country Manager in this role. For this role, you will need to have strong experience with stakeholder management, as establishing and maintaining strong relationships with landowners, regulatory bodies, government agencies, and community organisations will be essential in succeeding in the position. You will also be required to ensure these complex projects are well positioned for financial investment, addressing both technical and economic aspects while managing risk and compliance. This role can be based in either Brisbane or Melbourne.
Responsibilities include:
* Conducting site assessments, feasibility studies, and risk analyses to determine project viability.
* Analysing grid connection, permitting, and environmental constraints to optimise project development strategies.
* Overseeing the preparation of project proposals, covering technical, financial, and environmental aspects.
* Managing permit processes and compliance requirements across local, state, and federal regulations.
* Working closely with engineering, finance, legal, and procurement teams to achieve key project milestones.
* Developing and managing project budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and profitability.
* Lead negotiations for land lease agreements, contractor engagements, and procurement contracts.
* Support the preparation of financial models and investment cases to secure funding and approvals.
What you'll need to succeed
* Bachelor's degree in Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
* 3-5+ years of Australian experience developing renewable energy projects.
* Proven track record in project management, permitting, and stakeholder engagement.
* Experience negotiating land agreements, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and construction contracts.
* Financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and investment analysis.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with experience managing diverse stakeholders.
* Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, permitting processes, and regulatory frameworks in Australia.
