ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
With a growing pipeline of work, we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Associate/Principal Ecologist to join the Melbourne team. You will have the opportunity to work on interesting and diverse projects, delivering innovative environmental management and conservation solutions to our clients. Our clients and projects are continually growing – particularly in the renewables, resources and conservation sectors.
You will serve as a technical expert, offering guidance and mentorship to junior staff. Your knowledge of threatened species and ecological communities in the region will allow you to lead high-quality assessments and contribute to innovative environmental management solutions. You will be responsible for developing methodologies and protocols, planning and leading field surveys, and ensuring technical excellence in project delivery.
About you:
This role will allow you to combine your passion for ecology, environmental management, legislative knowledge, and leadership skills to create high-quality work and great outcomes for our clients and the environment.
To be successful, you will have:
1. Tertiary qualifications in Ecology or related discipline.
2. Minimum 8 to 10 years’ ecological experience (with some of this in Victoria).
3. Expertise in Victorian flora and/or fauna species identification, with strong knowledge of threatened species and ecological communities.
4. Strong working knowledge of Victorian planning and environmental legislation and Commonwealth environmental legislation.
5. Demonstrated high-level experience in project and budget management.
6. Previous consulting and business development experience (minimum 5 years).
7. VQA accreditation (desirable), or the ability to obtain this.
8. Experience planning, coordinating, and leading large-scale field surveys.
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing high-quality reports and assessments.
10. High-level stakeholder and client liaison skills.
11. Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience supporting and developing junior ecologists.
