What you'll be doing
Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, part of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, is seeking the services of a paediatrician to provide short periods of leave relief to rural paediatricians across NSW. Just over half of the time will be spent in rural NSW, with the remainder of the time linked with the General Paediatric Department of the successful applicant’s choice of one of the Children’s Hospitals in NSW. The “back to base” time is flexible and can be negotiated to complement the successful applicant’s interests and skills and support their professional development.
This is a temporary Staff Specialist position, for two years with the option to extend for a further two years pending performance review.
Successful applicants will provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
They will participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff. Successful applicants may be offered an honorary conjoint appointment at the relevant University for the duration of the position. For Randwick this will be with the University of New South Wales in the School of Women’s and Children’s Health.
Successful applicants will be expected to abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
Applicants must have completed the COVID-19 vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
ASARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) 3 doses are required for Category A positions (refer to NSW Policy Directive PD2022_030 ).
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate.
Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the relevant University. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network for clinical matters.
Eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Paediatrician and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Willingness and ability to travel to perform relieving roles in rural NSW as well as to perform educational roles in metropolitan and rural NSW.
Ability to be flexible in the workplace to adapt to different clinical settings.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time
Valid NSW drivers licence
