Inspection & Testing- Perform visual and dimensional inspections of mechanical components (e.g., pipes, valves, pumps, structural parts).- Conduct Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods like Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT).- Verify material certifications (e.g., EN (phone number removed).1/3.2) and compliance with BS, EN, ISO, ASME, or API standards.2.
Documentation & Compliance- Maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Control Plans (QCPs).- Ensure compliance with UKCA/CE marking, Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), PED (Pressure Equipment Directive), and other regulatory requirements.- Prepare Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT).3.
Welding & Fabrication QC- Monitor welding processes (e.g., TIG, MIG, Stick, Submerged Arc Welding).- Check weld integrity, alignment, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT).- Verify Welding Inspection Records (WIRs) and Welding Data Sheets (WDS).4.
Supplier & Vendor Quality Assurance- Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).- Review supplier documentation (Material Test Certificates, Mill Certificates).- Perform source inspections at vendor facilities.5.
Defect Management & Corrective Actions- Identify non-conformities (NCRs) and raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).- Work with production teams to implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).- Ensure rework/rejection of defective parts.6.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance- Follow COSHH, LOLER, PUWER regulations in the UK.- Ensure safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment.7.
Audits & Continuous Improvement- Conduct internal/external quality audits (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).- Implement Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma principles for process improvement.Required Qualifications & Skills- Certifications:- CSWIP (Certified Welding Inspector) / PCN Level 2 (NDT) (for welding/NDT roles).- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor (for QA roles).- Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or relevant apprenticeship.- Experience:- Knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines).- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS).- Soft Skills:- Attention to detail, problem-solving, report writing, and communication.
