Competitive salary with packaging available Long-standing, for-purpose organisation As the Head of Finance and Accounting, you will be responsible for the overall management of the finance and accounting functions of our client's organisation. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving the financial strategy, governance and objectives. This hands-on role is integral to ensuring accurate, transparent and timely financial management and reporting, budgeting, forecasting, risk mitigation and compliance.
The Head of Finance and Accounting will have a demonstrated history of success in financial leadership roles, showcasing the ability to collaborate effectively with the Board, Committees, and Executives. This individual will be solution-focused, adept at managing multiple responsibilities and committed to meeting deadlines with precision and efficiency.
The candidate must have sound knowledge of accounting principles, regulations and financial reporting standards for Not-for-Profits, have strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and with all stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement robust financial strategies, policies and procedures to ensure accountability, transparency and operational efficiency. Governance & Reporting: Oversee accurate and transparent financial reporting to the leadership team and Board. Establish effective internal controls and systems to mitigate risk, ensuring best financial practice is followed. Financial Operations: Lead the preparation and development of the annual budget and budget reporting. Lead all payroll functions, ensuring timely and accurate payment processes. Oversee general ledger, bank accounts, cash flow, payroll, and asset registers. Sustainability & Growth: Contribute to the Long-Term Financial Sustainability and Investment Plan, identifying strategies for financial risk mitigation and growth. Mentor and manage the finance team, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement across financial processes and systems. Compliance: Oversee compliance with financial governance in accordance with accounting standards, legislation, policy, and funding guidelines. Oversee statutory obligations, including BAS, PAYG, FBT, and Payroll, ensuring timely and accurate lodgement of tax returns and financial reports. Coordinate with external auditors and ensure smooth audit processes. About You Tertiary qualification in a relevant field; Certified Management Accountant preferred. Minimum 5 years in senior management accounting roles. Proven ability to evaluate and present financial data, produce financial statements and deliver performance reports. Strong communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels. Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring teams and meeting deadlines. Proficiency in financial systems, including Xero (preferred), and advanced Excel skills. Commitment to ethical practices. Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and accounting standards. Strong attention to detail, time management and organisational skills to achieve objectives efficiently.
