What You'll be Doing This position is responsible for specialist physiotherapy clinical service provision in the area of neurodegenerative disease across South West Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD). This includes service development and evaluation, advanced clinical reasoning and practice skills in the management of clients of a novel or complex nature, as well as providing consultation and education across the SWSLHD in the assessment and management of clients with neurodegenerative disease. This position is responsible for the supervision, teaching and training of Physiotherapists, AHAs, the broader MDT and other external providers. The position will build multidisciplinary relationships and work closely with the Neurology, Palliative Care and Respiratory Departments in SWSLHD to lead the service design and build district-wide multidisciplinary pathways to improve access to specialised care for clients with neurodegenerative disease, including facilitation of community supports (including NDIS and ENABLE) and in reach to clinics. The Level 4 Senior Neurodegenerative Disease Supportive Care physiotherapist will holistically assess and manage clients in the community with neurodegenerative disease – including respiratory and ventilator requirements and functional assessment. This includes: Assessing and managing function, including advice around exercise and maintenance of function, upper limb care, neck supports and positioning Implementing and/or assisting in the delivery of appropriate ventilatory support/non-invasive ventilation for clients in the community Provision of respiratory care including procedures such as secretion clearance and airway suctioning where indicated Education and support for patients/carers and private care providers in the use and care of ventilatory support equipment, respiratory care/sputum clearance techniques and the use of transfer aids/tools Participation in case conferencing, clinical meetings and multidisciplinary clinics Liaison with medical staff concerning treatment choices and long-term treatment plans Facilitation of community supports and in-reach to hospital outpatient clinics. Current Physiotherapy Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Extensive clinical specialty experience including demonstrated advanced practice skills and management of a complex physiotherapy caseload. Demonstrated experience in providing clinical leadership, consultation, supervision and education for staff and/or students. Demonstrated commitment to professional development and ability to implement evidence based practice. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build partnerships with relevant internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership, skills and experience in the planning and implementation of quality improvement, research and service development activities. Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to work independently and as part of a specialist multidisciplinary team. Advanced level of clinical knowledge and expertise in physiotherapy management of neurodegenerative conditions, including respiratory failure management, airways clearance, functional assessment and management and supporting end of life care. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment.
