Job Title: Aboriginal Teacher Assistant (Secondary)
The Aboriginal Teacher Assistant (ATA) plays a vital role in supporting the learning and wellbeing of Aboriginal students in the secondary school environment. Reporting to the Classroom Teacher, the ATA provides professional culture and contextual support to enhance teaching programs and promote cultural awareness among students, teachers, and the wider school community.
Key Responsibilities:
* Developing and implementing teaching programs that incorporate Indigenous knowledge and perspectives;
* Providing direct feedback to teachers, parents, and guardians on student progress and behaviour;
* Liaising with local communities and other educational agencies to support student learning and wellbeing;
* Contributing to a dynamic team environment by demonstrating initiative, independence, and a commitment to continuous learning;
* Maintaining confidentiality and upholding the Catholic ethos and traditions of the College.
Selection Criteria:
* Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with families, community stakeholders, and other networks;
* Capacity to work independently and as part of a team, embracing the concept of continuous learning;
* Willingness to participate in Co-curricular activities;
* Competency in basic IT skills;
* Ability to model and uphold the Catholic ethos and traditions of the College.
Qualifications Required:
* Aboriginality per Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984;
* Current Working with Children Check WA;
* Current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check;
* Current unrestricted WA 'C' class drivers' licence.
