Reporting to the Smelting, Planning and Technical Manager, you will be responsible for providing a safe, effective and timely sampling and analytical service for the plant. This service consists of analysis of export finished product, by-products, Raw Materials, Quality Control of product and Environmental analysis as required. This is performed by successful management of the laboratory in compliance to the NATA Scope of Accreditation.
Accountabilities include:
1. Lead, coach, and mentor direct reports including technical professionals to deliver on plan and build a high performing team that is safety oriented
2. Accountable for the preparation, testing and reporting on furnace tap samples, environmental, miscellaneous materials, raw materials, and plant water samples as requested/required
3. Manage the safe execution of work activities according to the daily plan in the Laboratory
4. Manage, review, and maintain all standards, procedures, analytical methods and equipment used within the performance of analytical services at the Company
5. Responsible for maintaining Laboratory operations and accreditation in line with NATA Regulations defining the Scope of Accreditation and, ISO:7
6. Effectively engage with all relevant stakeholders regarding sample product quality and discrepancies
7. Comply with and actively participate in the continuous improvement of the Liberty Bell Bay Quality Management System as described in company policies, procedures, handbooks, manuals and other company documentation.
8. Maintain and manage relevant Laboratory databases to ensure data integrity
9. Manage and understand the duties specified in the Radiation Management Plan and act as site Radiation Safety Officer
10. Manage Legionella and bacterium control for all site Cooling Towers and provide annual License information to George Town Council.
11. Act as License holder and manage use of Hydrofluoric acid.
We are looking for an experienced Laboratory Supervisor with strong technical/scientific mindset and a focus on safety who can collaborate, build productive relationships and take accountability. You will have highly developed computer skills and have the ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
You will also have:
12. A tertiary degree in Science, Chemistry or related field
13. Post graduate qualification/experience in Business Management or Environmental Chemistry (highly regarded)
14. Minimum 5 years’ experience in Analytical Chemistry
15. Background in Mining, Minerals, Power, Manufacturing or Heavy Industry
16. Leadership capability as demonstrated by ability to
17. achieve results and problem solve through the utilisation of your team
18. select, develop, coach and mentor employees resulting in improved engagement, diversity and organisational capability
19. Demonstrated safety focus and compliance / improvement of safety in the working environment
20. Demonstrated experience in high level decision-making that directly impacts an operation within multi-functional teams
21. Understanding of instrumental analytical techniques
22. Understanding of NATA Regulations & GLP (Good Laboratory practice)
23. Knowledge of sampling and sample preparation techniques
24. Demonstrated experience in driving process improvements initiatives
25. Have the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross functional team orientated environment at all levels of the organisation
