Mater Research are looking for a Director of Clinical Research to join the team This maximum term (5 years), 0.4 to 0.6 FTE role will be based at our South Brisbane campus. Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 access to many staff benefits What you’ll be doing The Director of Clinical Research (DCR) will provide oversight, leadership, and guidance in the management and execution of clinical and health services research at Mater as a key member of the Mater Research Limited (MRL) Executive Team, and as the senior service lead for Mater Clinical Trials. The DCR will work collaboratively with the Executive Director and the other members of the MRL Executive team to establish research priorities and assess organisational processes associated with clinical (including surgical and surgical devices) and health services research, with a key focus on clinical trials. MRL’s vision is to continue to grow outstanding clinical and health services research activity that influences future national and international health policy and practice, through integration of research with clinical care. Accordingly, there will be need for the DCR to work collaboratively with key roles in Mater Health, including the Chief Medical Officer, to deliver this vision and promote alignment with health service priorities. The Director’s portfolio includes overseeing the performance of multidisciplinary health outcomes focused research within the Mater healthcare environment across Queensland, in areas identified as pivotal to Mater Group and MRL strategies, including biobanking and integration of clinical and biomedical research. The DCR would also lead a program of internationally recognised clinical (including clinical trials) and/or health services research. The DCR will have responsibility for leadership of the Mater Clinical Trials service, in conjunction with the Senior Manager of Clinical Trials, and ensuring that Clinical Trial activities at Mater meet National standards required for hospital accreditation. For more information specific to the role, please view the PD here – Director of Clinical Research About you You will have relevant clinical qualification(s) aligned to an area of focus for Mater Health and an ongoing involvement in delivering clinical care at Mater. You will also meet the below criteria: HDR qualification (ideally at PhD level) in a relevant research area. Current Good Clinical Practice certification An existing Clinical appointment within Mater Health Demonstrated experience in leading, motivating and developing interdisciplinary clinical and/or health services research teams to deliver complex research projects involving multiple stakeholders and in changing environments. Demonstrated experience as the Principal Investigator of clinical trials conducted under ICH GCP requirements - either industry sponsored, collaborative group trials, or investigator-initiated trials. Leadership of, or significant contributions to, successful research funding applications into nationally competitive funding schemes A personal commitment to, and evidence of, mentoring clinical researchers across disciplines and fostering postgraduate research training. Proven professional leadership qualities and capabilities including working as part of a collaborative leadership team. Ability to take a strategic approach through comprehending the wider contexts, developing long term goals and determining strategies and actions required to achieve such goals. In-depth working knowledge of current applicable regulations and industry best practices and standards pertaining to clinical and health services research and running of clinical trials. An understanding of and a commitment to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. Experience in managing clinical research data collection, reporting, outcomes, quality improvement and standards/pathways Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills. Excellent time management, planning and leadership skills, and ability to interact across multiple organisational areas at senior levels. Why join us?
