Romero Centre is a part of Evangelisation Brisbane within the Archdiocese, an agency focused on promoting the Church’s mission by empowering parishes and communities to encounter and live the joy of the Gospel including the pursuit of social justice. In the tradition of St Oscar Romero, the Romero Centre exists to be a voice for the voiceless and empower some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
About the Role
The Romero Centre is a place of welcome, safety and support for people seeking asylum, supporting approximately 500 individuals and their dependents. Our people come from over 40 countries and many cultures representing the diversity of our world. In alignment with the Evangelisation Brisbane Strategic Plan 2020-2024, the position works closely with the Manager of the Romero Centre, ensuring financial sustainability while representing the Centre within the broader community.
Role Objectives
The primary objective is to plan, develop, and execute strategic fundraising initiatives while fostering and expanding community relationships. This role aims to develop successful fundraising strategies and public relations campaigns to enhance the reputation of the Romero Centre through targeted engagement with schools, businesses, parishes, and community groups, as well as secure the financial sustainability of the Centre.
Key Responsibilities
* Fundraising Strategy: Develop and execute strategies for income growth, focusing on donor relations and retention, business partnerships and grant writing.
* Community Engagement: Build the Romero Centre’s reputation through partnerships with schools, parishes, community groups, and businesses, and by hosting key events such as fundraisers and multicultural celebrations.
* Public Relations: Lead annual public relations campaigns to enhance Romero’s visibility, manage media relationships, and leverage digital platforms to share impactful stories.
* Governance and Compliance: Establish frameworks for marketing, public relations, and fundraising; manage budgets, and prepare reports for leadership.
* Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to internal policies and complete required training.
Desirable Qualities
* Commitment to the support of Asylum Seekers and Refugees: A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to supporting those the Romero Centre exists to serve, and an ability to communicate their needs to current and prospective donors and supporters.
* Not-for-Profit Experience: Proven experience working within a not-for-profit organisation, with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in this sector, especially around community engagement and donor management.
* Experience Managing Volunteers: Demonstrated ability to manage paid and unpaid staff and coordinate the activities of various short term volunteers including school students and corporate teams.
* Experience Building Strategic Relationships: Five years’ experience in a similar role with a proven ability to build relationships with a broad range of stakeholders to foster a strong network of supporters in both community and corporate settings.
